Bertie and Biffo the dream team

3:03 AM 1
Biffo appears to be putting distance between Berite and himself in this photo from the Irish Times.

Is this the beginning of the end for the dream team?

The real question to be asked about this photo is why are these two men smiling? What have they got to smile about? Bertie is bringing the party down with him and Biffo the only man who could stop him is going down with the ship without comment expect that Bertie "enjoys" his full support meanwhile the rest of the FF party are putting on their life jackets and making for the lifeboats.

Like the Titanic, Fianna Fail has been holed below the water line by Haughey, Pee Flynn, Liam Lawlor, Ray Burke, Albert Reynolds and Bertie Ahern and like the Titanic it is only a matter of time before the party begins to realise it and panic.

While FF manage to remain in Government, it is only be leaning heavier and heavier on coalition parties to make up the difference. The truth is that under Bertie Ahern the party is bleeding seats and will continue to do so locally in 2009.

FF is sinking but the Band is playing on! Nearer my God to Thee!

The local elections will be fun. In 2004 FF had one of their worst results in all time until 2009 perhaps.

April Fool Bertie Ahern for the High Court

3:18 PM 2
Bertie Ahern will be the April Fool when he appears in the High Court on April 1st as part of his legal challenge to the Mahon Tribunal which is attempting to establish whether Bertie is Dirty.

Instead of opening up his books and his heart to the Tribunal to allow them to clear him (as he insists he is innocent) Bertie is instead trying to prevent the Tribunal from holding him to account.

The judicial review will be heard by three judges sitting in a Divisional Court - which sits only to deal with major cases of significant constitutional or legal importance.

Bertie Ahern TD is seeking to prevent the tribunal questioning him on statements made under Dáil privilege - even if they were repeated elsewhere. They are also challenging the handing over of specific documents which feature independent advice from a banking expert.

US advocates terrorism and assasination in Middle East

12:20 PM 1
So much for George Bush the Middle East Peacemaker.

Today his government welcomed the assasination of Hizbullah's most senior commanders, Imad Mugnieh.

Hizbullah, which is backed by Syria and Iran, accused Israel of assassinating him by planting a bomb in his car. Tehran blamed Israel but Israel denied any involvement.

According to the Irish Times today the "US applauds assassination of senior Hizbullah leader"

When will the US learn that you cannot declare a "War on Terror" and then aplaude terror tactics when they are used by your allies against their enemies.

"The world is a better place without this man in it. He was a cold-blooded killer, a mass-murderer and a terrorist responsible for countless innocent lives lost," US State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said. "One way or another he was brought to justice."

Justice? How many "countless innocent lives" have been lost in George Bush's war on Terror in Iraq and Afghanistan?

Too many! But no-one is advocating blowing him up in his car-well not yet anyway!

Couldn't the same quote be used in the event of the assassination of George W Bush?

Batty, Fianna Fail and the builders

6:52 PM 1
Political Quote was shocked to learn that Fianna Fail TD Batt O'Keeffe, Housing Minister has told builders to CUT their prices if they want to sell houses!

The developers of this country will be reeling in their mansions at the cheek of the man. "The housing market has probably been driven too much by emotion," and this has led to a "tide of credit" and a hysteria for young people to get on the property ladder" says Batty.

Funny that his government has based our entire economy on building and the tide of credit and now all of a sudden its like this is a bad thing!

The minister is however concerned that a "cartel of big builders in Dublin have simply shut up shop" in the hope that if they wait long enough "the present buyers' market" will end. Currently there are 30,000 houses available in Dublin but if "builders reduce output across the board we will have a problem of availability".

In other words Batty knows that the builders are going to try and control the market to manipulate prices? Surely the bastions of FREE MARKET Fianna Fail and the PDs will take on these rogues?

Don't hold your breath!

Sunday Independent asks.....

6:40 PM 0
"Planning on uploading a sexy photo of yourself on the internet that all your friends can see when they visit your personal page?"

That's the question asked by the Sunday Independent today in relation to "personal" websites on the internet.

The story concerns a Dublin woman got the fright of her life when she uploaded a raunchy picture of herself frolicking on a bed, only to come across it a few weeks later in an advertisement campaign for a major online dating website.

Well this blog is disgusted. Its not fair on my mother, having her picture used without her permission like that!

The PDs still haven't gone away but don't you wish they would?

The party is in its death throes with a leader who doesn't want to lead, a TD who wants to leave and Fiona "oddball" O'Malley as a Senator. The have a former leader and former President who left as soon as they lost their seats.

The party is over, its time to stop the music and get the last person to leave to switch off the lights.

Best bit of Irish Politics for 2007

9:18 PM 0
s nominated by Political Quote this is the best bit of the Dail action in 2007. Its a real pity that he Dail only sits for 90 days a year.

Watch Enda Kenny TD, Arthur Morgan TD and Michael Ring TD taking on the Ceann Comhairle John "Bull" O'Donaghue in a comical series of exchanges which show why John O'Donaghue was unfit to serve as a Minister.

Do we need another female President called Mary (well a male President called Mary would be unusual) ?

Is it not patronising and weird to assume all our Presidents must be female and must be called Mary?

Well one woman called Mary cetrtainly doesn't think so..........
"I want to be the third Mary in the Park," Senator White (63) said today. "I'm a warrior and I'll give it my best shot."

Ms White said her goal for the presidency was to bring Ireland back to being a caring society in the post-Celtic Tiger era.

The businesswoman, who co-founded the successful Lir Chocolates firm in 1987, will be seeking the nomination from the Fianna Fáil parliamentary party.

Whoever Americans elect to succeed him will have a tremedous task of rebuilding the US economy and its standing among the world with its enemies and even its allies.
