You can read more about the Ilois of Chagos and their struggle to go home to their island here but a very brief explanation of the issue is that in 1969 the UK government exiled the Ilois people of Chagos to Mauritius so that they could lease the island of Chagos to the US for their airbase Diego Garcia.
