US concedes deafeat in Iraq and will pull out soon

The US wants to leave Iraq with honour according to Vice President Dick Cheney. In other words the US is conceding defeat.The last time the US spoke about honour in this context it was a peace with honour in Vietnam. Public opinion, world opinion and US politicians are now opposed to the war and as Bush becomes a lame duck it is all over for the neo-conservatives who are to be saddled forever with the Iraq war and its aftermath as their legacy.
Just as Vietnam haunted Johnson, Nixon and finally Ford the Vietnam war will follow Bush, Cheney, Rumsfled and Rice into the history books.
It is pathetic when people like Cheney start using words like "honour" in relation to the situation in Iraq; it is the last refuge of the defeated scoundrel.
All indications are that the US will be pulling out shortly as Tony Blair is also expected to announce that the UK will be withdrawing its troops from Iraq. Currently, Britain has about 7,100 soldiers there.
Bush views Britain's troop cutbacks as "a sign of success" in Iraq, according to US National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe.
Who do they think they are fooling? Me? You?
What about the rest of Bush's grand alliance? The major partners in the coalition include South Korea (2,300 troops), Poland (900), Georgia (800), Romania (600) and Denmark (460).

The Real "Trial of Tony Blair"

History is not going to be kind to Tony Blair.
His legacy is gone. Nothing he can do in the UK or Northern Ireland or anywhere can blot out what he has done in Iraq. His legacy will not be peace or democracy in Iraq.
The humorous Channel 4 programme "The trial of Tony Blair" was a take on Tony Blair being tried by the International Courts for his war of aggression on Iraq but it may well be that Tony's real trial is to be over the "Cash for Honours" scandal which has seen members of his government arrested and seen Tony questioned twice.
Tony should go now. No-one survives long in power with this kind of thing hanging over their heads. Ask Nixon. Ask Mandy. Ask Blunkett. Sooner or later you have to go.

Saddam Hussein and the United States

Saddam Hussein was an ally of the United States. After all it was the US who helped him come to power in 1979 to counter the strength and influence of the Soviet Union in the middle east.
The man who could have detailed the actual amount of support received from the US was Saddam himself but that's not going to happen now. Saddam took his secrets with him.
Many of the Iraqi dictator's files and the files of his regime have been seized by the US among them are documents which show that Saddam met with U.S. officials right before he invaded Kuwait in 1990, leading some to speculate that American diplomats led him to believe that the George H.W. Bush administration would tolerate his invasion.
According to Robert Fisk Saddam could have told the world a lot about the United States' involvement in Iraq over the last two and a half decades.
For example after Saddam seized power, US intelligence gave his minions the home addresses of communists in Baghdad and other cities in an effort to destroy the Soviet Union's influence in Iraq. Saddam's mukhabarat visited every home, arrested the occupants and their families, and butchered the lot. Public hanging was for plotters; the communists, their wives and children, were given special treatment - extreme torture before execution at Abu Ghraib.
While many in the US, UK and Europe are breathing a sigh of relief at the exit of Saddam and his secrets the problem is with this kind of thing that the truth will eventually come out.
There are just too many witnesses on both sides to the involvement of these countries and their leaders in propping up and supporting Saddam Hussein. Saddam bought his weapons from these countries, he even bought his beef from Ireland under Charles J Haughey. No-one asked questions then but there will be a lot of red faces if, or rather when, the truth does come out.

The British Prime Minister has said he completely supports the inquiry and he believes that the manner of the execution was completely wrong, but that should not lead us to forget the crimes that Saddam Hussein committed, including the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis.
So Tony is opposed only to the manner of the execution and not opposed to execution per se?

The counter above gives a maximum and minimum estimate of the dead in Iraq, it is live and updates in real time.
There was so much attention given to the death of one man, Saddam Hussein, that it is time to refocus on the deaths of those others who are dying every day in Iraq.
The counter faithfully records the deaths as they are reported, each death is recorded and if you check back in a day or even a matter of hours it is scary to see how many more people have died.
This is where our attention should be focused. Not on dead dictators but on people just like you and me who are dying daily in a country that is supposed to be liberated and free.

3,000 dead US troops, 60,000 dead civilians, Iraq wrecked.

In Desert Storm the US lost 148 and Iraqi civillian dead numbered 35,000.
Today there are now over 3,000 dead US soliders in Iraq and there are almost 60,000 Iraqi civillians dead.
According to Bush's spokesman Scott Stanzel the US president "grieves for each one that is lost" and "will ensure their sacrifice was not made in vain."
Saddam has answered for his butchery. Will Rumsfeld and Bush answer for their role in these deaths?

Saddam Hussein is dead

Saddam Hussein is dead. Killed by his country for his crimes against his people, the Kurds, the Marsh Arabs and those others whom he killed at will.It must be noted that for many years the US supplied Saddam with the weapons and chemical warfare agents that he used in these crimes.
Hanging the 69-year-old former dictator of Iraq solves nothing and only closes another chapter in Iraq's bloody history.
The violence will still go on and Iraqis, Americans, British and others will continue to die on the streets; victims of the hatred of others who have been allowed to rise to the top in the chaos following the invasion of Iraq.
Saddam Hussein should have been sent to rot in prison for the rest of his life. An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth is poor justice and only condones further violence as a means to an end.
Saddam is gone but the hatred he espoused towards others lives on.
